So I waited till passing the 10 hour mark before taking my XP-21 up to full throttle - did so this weekend, and was surprised/irked that i only got 4900 rpm and @ 40 mph, even with motor pretty well trimmed up ... I've thought from the first time out that the throttle itself seemed a little far "forward" even at low to mid rpm range (i.e., there's a lot of travel between neutral and say 3000 rpm), but figured it was just more sensitive at the top end. .. Not so I guess!
Boat had 1/3rd tank, 3 "medium" adults, one 35 lb. kid, and a few drinks in the cooler, but that's it, so we weren't running heavy by any means. Prop is Yamaha Reliance 13.75 x 19 (dealer installed)...Yamaha Performance Specs indicate 49 mph at 5800 rpm... obviously 4900 rpm is not right.
waiting for call back from dealer for input, but again figured I'd check with the "pro's" here re: whether this might change/improve as motor continues break-in, or if there's a simple adjustment(s) that can be made? I know prop specs can have a big impact, but this is the exact "power matched"
prop Yamaha does their test with... Any suggestions??
